Prophets and Profits is a drawing about the systemic forces that fuel and perpetuate consumption. The field in this drawing resembles a delicate hanging cloth, providing an illusion of flexibility. The members of the field are tied together struggling against the adjacent figures to satisfy the forces that drive their competition: institutional and financial forms of reward. The form represents a crystallized state of this tension.
Monica Wynn, of qohstudio, uses 2d and 3d mediums to enact systems of tension in order to consider contemporary social conditions through the lens of physics. Themes such as distortion, power, amplitude, displacement, and capitalism, depict the relationship between the individual and the collective, and are translated into field conditions. These scenes reflect the violence of competitive economic models.
